Appointed as executive director, he served from 1928 to 1953. Afterward, he served as trustee until his death in 1970. Formerly a member of the editorial board of The New York Times, he was also a one-time chairman of the board of the National Public Housing Conference as well as co-founder and former member of the Public Affairs Committee.
